On Friday, Le Parisien claimed that Carlo Ancelotti was the favourite to take over from Arsène Wenger at Arsenal after the Frenchman announced he would be leaving the Gunners at the end of the season.
The Italian is currently without a job, and has been said multiple times by various outlets to prefer a job in London, giving him a very likely choice between the north London side and Chelsea.
On Sunday, however, Téléfoot claimed that Arsenal’s first choice isn’t Ancelotti, but Luis Enrique.
The French TV show believe the former Paris Saint-Germain manager isn’t a ‘unanimous’ choice within the Gunners’ boardroom, with the aforementioned Spaniard and Patrick Vieira ahead of him.
Téléfoot explain that conversations between Raul Sanllehi, Arsenal’s director of football, and Luis Enrique are already taking place, although the ex-Barcelona coach’s wage demands (€17m/year) could prove a problem.
As for Patrick Vieira, the former Gunner is Stan Kroenke’s and his American partners’ preferred choice.
Téléfoot make it clear in their headline that Luis Enrique is ‘priority number one’, which means the New York City FC manager is currently the backup plan should the Spaniard prove to expensive.
This is only the beginning, folks. There’s a whole lot more to come.
