PSV Eindhoven manager Roger Schmidt has admitted now may be the time for Cody Gakpo to leave the club amid interest from Arsenal.
Gakpo has been in fine form for the Dutch side this season, scoring 21 goals and registering 15 assists in 46 games in all competitions.
Those numbers haven’t gone unnoticed, with a growing list of suitors reportedly ready to make a move for him this summer.
Arsenal are believed to be one of those clubs who are keen, with them first joining the race at the end of January.
There have been several reports about their interest in him since then, and even yesterday, it was stated that Arsenal’s interest in him had ‘strengthened’ so much that he was now at the top of their wishlist for the summer.
Whether they make a move for him remains to be seen, given it will be a busy summer at the Emirates, but if they do, it seems PSV have resigned themselves to an eventual departure.
“Cody is a fantastic player. He is very special to the club and the fans,” FC Update report Schmidt saying.
“He was born in Eindhoven and has always played at PSV. Cody has a lot of potential, and he will certainly leave one day.
“It’s up to him to decide when the right moment is. He has to make his own decisions.
“Although he is still young, he is already a leader for the team. Now he has to make the decisions himself.”
