Aston Villa’s Matty Cash has ended up in the sights of Atalanta, according to reports coming out of Italy on Thursday.
On March 7th, the Serie A side confirmed the appointment of Lee Congerton as their head of international development. He moved to Italy after working at Celtic and Leicester City.
Gian Piero Gasperini is looking to strengthen the fullback positions in the next window and the club’s new chief is ‘specifically monitoring this market’ and his target list includes the Aston Villa player.
That’s what Gazzetta dello Sport are reporting today and they further state that Steven Gerrard’s man is ‘closely followed’ by Congerton.
It won’t be easy for Atalanta to take the right-back away from Aston Villa, however.
Apart from them, Atlético Madrid like the Poland international, but the La Liga side may find it hard to land Cash due to his valuation of €35-40m.
It is no surprise that Congerton, who has spent time in the United Kingdom, is looking at the Premier League to bolster Atalanta’s squad next season.
For now, he is closely following the Villa fullback, but time will tell whether Congerton and Atalanta will convert this into a concrete interest or an offer to sign Cash.
What is certain is that he’ll cost a fair bit, having very recently renewed his contract at Villa Park until 2027.
