Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is without several of his key players due to injuries piling up at Manchester United.
Two key midfielders Nemanja Matic and Ander Herrera are out of action, while the key attacking duo of Anthony Martial and Jesse Lingard are also recovering on the sidelines.
In the absence of the midfielders, Solskjaer has given opportunities to other players to perform and one of them is Andreas Pereira, who scored his first Premier League goal in his side’s 3-2 win over Southampton.
The Belgium-born Brazil international’s contract at Old Trafford will expire at the end of this season and earlier reports suggested the 23-year-old has no interest in renewing his current deal [when Jose Mourinho was the manager].
Today’s edition of Het Nieuwsblad claims the Red Devils plan to take up the option of extending Pereira’s contract by a further year and Solskjaer would also ‘like to keep him’ at the club beyond this campaign.
If Pereira continues to impress, then he can make a strong case to be included in the starting XI even after the likes of Matic and Herrera recover from their respective injuries.
