Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes has been helping people from his home country during the Coronavirus crisis, according to a report in Portugal today.
Newspaper A Bola writes that the midfielder has joined a movement called Futebol para a Vida (Football for Life) which helps non professional players.
It’s said that Fernandes himself has personally distributed food and other essential items in the area of Porto, where he was born.
One of the movement’s slogans is about forgetting rivalry, and despite having been Sporting’s captain, the midfielder took part along with Fernando Madureira, who belongs to Porto’s biggest fan group, called Super Dragões.
A Bola says that Bruno Fernandes’ presence was ‘a gesture that silenced those who received the donations’.
Interestingly, A Bola is the only outlet reporting the player’s action, and not even Futebol Para a Vida’s social media pages have a picture of him doing so. So perhaps he wanted to go anonymously.
The only post where his support is shown is in a video published a couple of days ago. There he says “Today we are all on the same team. Join me so we can make a difference. If you need help or meet someone who needs it, go to www.futebolparaavida.pt and don’t hesitate. Today you, tomorrow us”.
