On September 23rd, we relayed claims made by the Catalan press that Manchester United ‘won’t give up’ on signing Ousmane Dembélé.

The Barcelona player, who picked up an injury while with France at the Euros, has a contract expiring in less than 12 months.

Mundo Deportivo now state the 24-year-old’s contract renewal ‘has not yet materialised with good news’.

Barca president Joan Laporta, however, is ‘optimistic’ about tying down the winger to a new deal. He has maintained contacts with the France international, to offer an extension ‘at least until 2024’.

The former Borussia Dortmund man is currently on sidelines, while several sides are ‘tempting him with offers’ to join them on a free transfer next summer.

Mundo say ‘this is the case’ with the Red Devils and Juventus, and both these sides are ‘courting’ the La Liga attacker.

Laporta, meanwhile, personally spoke to the player, trying to convey Barca’s intention to renew his contract since he is considered a ‘differential and strategic player’, and to know his reaction first-hand.

While United and Juve are trying to tempt Dembélé, the Spanish club’s chief is working to convince him to continue at the club.

It’ll be interesting to see how this case develops.
