Free to find himself a new club in the summer after Paris Saint-Germain decided to move on from his services, Edinson Cavani chose, after much deliberation, to give the Premier League a go with Manchester United.
Following in the footsteps of his former teammate Zlatan Ibrahimovic and the likes of Radamel Falcao, the Uruguayan had a relatively slow start to his campaign in England, but things have turned around a bit since.
Scoring two very important goals away to Southampton to give Manchester United the win, the striker is slowly but surely settling in a league made for his qualities.
However, he also had the chance to return to Italy, where he spent many happy years at Napoli before his Parisian adventure.
He replied: “Only thank you. I will always be grateful to them. It’s for this reason that I said no to many Italian clubs including Juventus, who called me often, and Inter too. I couldn’t do such a thing to the Neapolitans. If I think of Naples, I think of joy, because I know that I have done so much for them and they continue to pay tribute to me”.
Spending three seasons at Napoli, Edinson Cavani scored 104 goals in 138 appearances for the Serie A side, adding 14 assists to his tally as well.
