Manchester United are interested in recruiting a centre-back in the summer, or, at least, that’s what the European press would have you believe.
Constant links to players like Kalidou Koulibaly are becoming rather tedious, especially when it seems like Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would much prefer to invest in youth than splashing the cash on big name targets nearing their 30s.
One name that does fit that philosophy is Marash Kumbulla, with whom United have been linked a fair bit too.
They were already keeping tabs on the Albania international in January, and that interest hasn’t waned, as Corriere di Verona continue to push the angle that the Red Devils are circling.
They are joined by other clubs, such as Chelsea, Eintracht Frankfurt and RB Leipzig, and will have to be convincing to get Hellas Verona to let him go.
We all know money talks, and so do the Serie A side, which is why a fee of €25-28m is believed to be enough to change their mind, according to the local Italian newspaper.
For a Premier League club, that isn’t exactly the largest of investments, and it’s certainly one worth considering for United if they don’t feel comfortable with keeping Phil Jones or Marcos Rojo around longer than they already have.
Kumbulla, at 20 years of age, would be one for the future, but also a player ready to step in if required.
