It turns out that Chris Smalling’s loan spell at Roma has been going pretty well, and perhaps better than expected.

Despite having only five appearances for the Italian side so far, his performances have been good enough to create some rumours about his permanent stay.

Earlier this week, we first covered a report from Corriere Dello Sport which said Roma have already contacted Manchester UNited showing their interest in a new deal.

Now it’s time for Il Tempo journalist Filippo Biafora to come up with similar claims. They say the defender has already ‘convinced’ the Serie A side to make a move for his permanent signing.

He claims that Roma and Manchester United are expected to meet and discuss the transfer in the coming weeks. The clubs are still to negotiate how much the Italian side would pay for that.

Since Smalling’s loan deal runs until the end of the season, it would be pretty impressive to see the Serie A side making the transfer permanent so early. Perhaps they want to avoid some competition for the next summer.
