Unless you’ve been on holiday and have had your phone turned off, you’ll probably be aware that Manchester United are said to be very interested in Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, with Mourinho said to be a ‘big fan’.
The Premier League side have scouted the 22-year-old in the past, and they did so again at the weekend, according to Il Tempo, travelling to Bergamo to watch the Serie A side face Atalanta.
Joined this time by a Chelsea representative, the Red Devils’ talent spotter didn’t travel for nothing, as the Serbia international scored two goals from just outside the box in a 3-3 draw in a performance the Italian newspaper describe as ‘from another planet’.
Following claims from his agent Milinkovic-Savic wasn’t going anywhere in January, the player recently revealed he was ‘happy’ at Lazio, suggesting no amount of money will convince the club or Milinkovic-Savic to agree to a transfer before the summer.
Il Tempo now believe the Serie A outfit’s president, Claudio Lotito, values his star at around €120m, meaning even a move in June would be complicated for teams to pull off.
If he continues playing the way he has, that price is just going to go up and up, and in the current market, there’s no saying where it’ll stop.
Of course, this hard stance could change dramatically at the end of the season if Lazio end up facing a €70-80m bid, one that could end up funding their entire summer transfer window.
This price range was recently put forward by Tuttosport, and, considering Lazio’s finances compared to, let’s say Juventus’, the Rome based club would find it hard to refuse such an offer.
