After the reports started to emerge in the British press about Manchester United’s interest in Issa Diop, France Football explained on June 24th the Red Devils’ chances of signing the West Ham United defender had ‘really increased’.
Tuesday’s L’Equipe has a report with a headline making it clear the Manchester United transfer ‘hammer’ is ready.
Interest from the 20-time English champions in the centre-back has led to several reports and constant contacts with his entourage. However, L’Equipe say they are yet to formalise an offer, despite earlier claims otherwise.
It’s claimed the proposal should not take long as they are expected to make an offer in the coming days.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to strengthen his defence and Diop is included in the shortlist of targets.
The French newspaper states the Hammers’ position is clear as they don’t want to sell him, but they haven’t fully closed the door for a transfer. Manchester United have to hit hard and L’Equipe say it will be difficult to imagine a first proposal below €50m.
Diop has not made leaving the London club a priority this summer, yet United’s concrete interest could move him.
It is further explained the Frenchman will not push for a move away from a club who trusted him last summer, but will no doubt ‘observe the progress of discussions with interest.’
