The future of Diogo Dalot has been a heavy topic of conversation these days in the Italian media, as Milan try and decide what to do with the Manchester United loanee.
Out of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans at Old Trafford, the right-back was sent to San Siro for the season in hope of him getting the minutes he wouldn’t in the Premier League, but they haven’t been regular.
Used for his versatility, either playing down the left or the right of Stefano Pioli’s defence, Dalot’s potential has ‘only been glimpsed’ so far, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.
They say ‘his situation is open to any scenario’, as Manchester United gave him out on loan ‘with the option of negotiating the eventual purchase at the end of the season’.
Despite him being used sporadically, the Portuguese defender ‘has been appreciated’ for both his versatility and ‘for the willingness he has shown to the manager in recent months’.
As things stand, Milan and United ‘will wait before sitting down at a table to discuss his future’, but it’s very much something they seem to be considering if Dalot continues in his current trajectory.
With a good chunk of the season still to go, there’s still time for him to establish himself in Italy, and this angle is certainly far more hopeful than some of the other recent ones we’ve seen of late.
That being said, a report emerged this morning somewhat backing up this from Gazzetta, with talks between the two sides potentially starting ‘in the coming days’.
