Turkish newspaper Fanatik report Galatasaray and Atletico Madrid are set to go head to head to sign Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic.

Earlier this week we covered reports from Turkey that Gala are interested in signing the 31 year old, and Fanatik’s latest update says they will be competing with Diego Simeone’s side for the player.

The Turkish champions are likely to send their defensive midfielder Steven Nzonzi back to AS Roma in the new year and are looking to replace him with Matic.

It’s also reported Matic has made his mind up about leaving Manchester United in the January transfer window after playing just 160 minutes in the Premier League for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this season.

He’s fallen down the pecking order at Old Trafford and the return of Paul Pogba is likely to further increase competition for midfield places.

Matic’s contract with the Red Devils will expire at the end of the season although there’s an option to extend for a further year.
