Earlier on Monday, we covered a couple of articles in the Italian media claiming that Nemanja Matić would be heading to AS Roma.
This all reportedly came from a chat the player had with José Mourinho, who has already managed him at both Manchester United and Chelsea, as the Portuguese wanted to work with him again in Italy.
The Serbian’s contract at Old Trafford expires at the end of the month, and it was already announced that he would be leaving the club, but his next destination remained a mystery.
Well, following the reports from the morning newspapers, Calciomercato.it are very confident it will be AS Roma.
They state the Manchester United midfielder rejected seven other contracts in favour of a move to the Serie A club, with Mourinho ‘fundamental’ to his decision.
In fact, he declined ‘richer offers’ to reunite with the former Real Madrid manager, and is ‘getting closer and closer’ to doing so.
Of the teams he turned down, there were ‘three German teams, two French teams and especially two Turkish teams that have submitted higher bids than Roma’.
However, once Mourinho called, ‘the player’s entourage had very little to do’ because the chat ‘left no room for doubt’ and the decision was taken ‘within hours’.
