Sport aren’t letting go of Samuel Umtiti to Manchester United just yet.

The Catalan newspaper have been the ones pushing the story most, with almost daily stories on the potential transfer over the past few weeks.

Whilst most fans and media have dismissed the idea as Umtiti simply looking to get a bigger contract, Sport continue with their claims because they believe there’s a chance of a transfer if Barcelona don’t pay up.

It’s claimed Manchester United have offered to ‘triple the wages’ of Umtiti and pay his €60m release clause with Barcelona. That’s the worry for Sport, with Umtiti’s fee already agreed at €60m, and inflation in the transfer market, it’s a reasonable enough fee.

For comparison, Barcelona have Gerard Pique on a contract with a €500m release clause.

Whilst Sport say ‘nobody is irreplaceable’ it’s pointed out replacing Umtiti would cost more than giving him a big pay rise, with the Frenchman wanting €9m after tax… something Manchester United are said to be willing to pay.

Compromise is needed, and talks will continue, with it being expected Barcelona will offer a good deal, and Umtiti will accept a chunk in bonuses.
