The Italian media have spent a week or several linking Manchester United with some of the best defenders in Serie A. Chief among the names mentioned has been Leonardo Bonucci.
Moving from Juventus to AC Milan last summer, the Italian international was an important figure for the club in a difficult season. Whilst Milan’s big project may well have flopped, Bonucci worked to get to his own very high standards and the club won’t want to lose him.
Financial penalties and a European ban due to FFP could make that task hard if a club come in with a big offer for the defender. It’s been thought something approaching €40m may well do the trick, and allow the Rossoneri to post a profit on the transaction.
Manchester United links really kicked off a week ago, and it was claimed in Italy that Jose Mourinho wanted his club to get the signing done quickly to avoid an auction with competitors.
Wednesday’s edition of Tuttosport says the Premier League club remain keen, and so do PSG. The competition Mourinho had wanted to avoid is reportedly very much there.
It’s also claimed Milan could accept €32m as this would allow them to still post a profit, given the depreciation of the player’s value from an accounting perspective.
