While Manchester United are closing in on Jadon Sancho, there is still talk from Italy that they could go for Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Portuguese superstar was unable to stop his nation exit the Euros early, beaten 1-0 by Belgium, and is now free to sort out his future, with Juventus ideally wanting him to leave to free up wages.

Few clubs can afford him, with just a handful possessing the funds required to pay him what he wants, among which are his former club Manchester United.

Tuttosport in Italy explain the Red Devils ‘could offer’ the Italian side ‘an exchange with Paul Pogba’, who only has one year left on his contract at Old Trafford.

However, those in charge of such moves at Manchester United ‘are not so convinced of the financial significance of the deal’.

Earning around €58.5m pre-tax in terms of wages, Ronaldo would require his former club to pay him somewhere close to €120m over two years, ‘because it would be really strange’ for him ‘to sign a one-year agreement’, even though he will turn 37 next February.

It seems that any deal involving Manchester United would be a surprise at this stage, with the likes of Paris Saint-Germain far more likely to make frivolous purchases of the sort.
