This is a bit of a curveball, but it’s one we can roll with: Marouane Fellaini could end up at AS Roma.
According to Corriere dello Sport on Friday, the Manchester United midfielder, whose contract with the Red Devils comes to an end in June, has been offered to the Serie A side’s director of football Monchi.
With both Kevin Strootman’s and Radja Nainggolan’s futures up in the air (as they always are around this time of the year), the prospect of signing a player like the Belgium international is intriguing, and the Italian newspaper even have a little graphic claiming he would be their ‘dream’ signing for the role.
Not only that, but Fellaini is said to be prioritising a move to Rome if possible, despite having a few offers from elsewhere, notably Turkey.
However, for all the positive words in the article, the aforementioned graphic suggests it could still be a difficult transfer to pull off, as Corriere suggest Nicolo Barella (who was recently valued at around €50m by his club) is the more ‘realistic option’.
For us, it seems it should be the other way around, since the Manchester United midfielder is available on a free, but perhaps wage demands make it slightly trickier than it appears to be on paper.
We’ll have to wait and see, but it’s not a bad move for Fellaini.
A city full of culture, good food and recurring European football. There’s worst places to play football in.
