Manchester United have ‘knocked on the door’ for Atlético Madrid midfielder Saúl Ñiguez this summer, with him determined to leave the Spanish club
That’s according to Marca, who say the club’s recent La Liga title has not changed the player’s mind about a move.
They explain that Saúl wants to take ‘another direction in his career’ and Juventus have appeared ‘strongly’ to try and take him to Italy.
The Italians are not the only interested party, though, and clubs from ‘the most powerful leagues’ have all ‘set their eyes’ on the midfielder.
Atlético are willing to give him a move, having been reluctant in the past, when they valued him at €70m with a €150m release clause.
There were no ‘substantial offers’ at that point in 2019, but they will now respect his decision to leave as long as an offer that ‘satisfies all parties’ arrives.
There’s a feeling that could happen after Saúl managed to improve his performances at the end of the season and several teams are ‘following in his footsteps’ as a result.
Manchester United are among them, although whether they’ll be willing to match Atlético’s demands or Saúl’s, he’s asking for €7m net a season, remains to be seen.
At the minute, we’ll take this with a pinch of salt, given we see Saúl to Manchester United rumours every summer without fail and nothing ever comes of them.
The difference this time is that he wants the move, which means this could pick up in the coming weeks.
