Despite insistence that Harry Maguire to Manchester United can still be done, it remains to be seen if it actually does end up stumbling over the line, and there’s a likelihood the Old Trafford club have backup plans in case things get too difficult.

One of those, it seems, at least according to Le10 Sport, is Samuel Umtiti, currently at Barcelona.

United being reported as keen on the player isn’t anything new, as articles have been published multiple times both by the French and the Spanish media on the subject, but the website seem to think it goes beyond that now, describing them as ‘very, very interested’.

They state the Premier League side ‘would be ready’ to put €50m on the table for the France international, which falls short of Barcelona’s valuation.

The Catalans think he’s worth around €60m, but we all know how these things work and should United put their starting bid on the table, a middle ground would likely be found via bonuses of some sort.

Manchester City are also said to have taken an interest in the player, going as far as enquiring about him, but nothing has happened beyond that.
