Matteo Darmian to Juventus should have been all boxed off by now. For months the Turin media were describing the transfer as almost a certainty, with Tuttosport saying it was 95% done on several occasions.
The problems seemed to start when Manchester United asked for €20m and were strong in their claims, refusing to quickly back down to Juventus.
Whilst the Serie A champions muddled about with their offer and got up to €12m plus a further €3m in bonuses, Jose Mourinho’s club held firm.
Juve have since moved on to Valencia’s Joao Cancelo, but Tuttosport believes both players could be signed.
The Turin newspaper points out Darmian only has a year left on his Manchester United contract, so it’s felt €20m is too high a fee for a player Mourinho hasn’t been counting on. However, they don’t mention the Premier League have an option to extend that deal by a further season.
A meeting between the clubs is scheduled for Wednesday, say Tuttosport, which it’s explained suggests a willingness to come to a compromise and find a deal.
