Manchester United have ‘already held several talks’ with PSV Eindhoven’s Cody Gakpo’s agents about a move to Old Trafford this summer.
That’s according to Eindhovens Dagblad, via NOS, who say the player is very much an alternative to Ajax’s Antony.
Manchester United are going on something of a spending spree this week, with the disappointing defeats to Brighton and Brentford showing a desperate need for reinforcements.
A deal for Real Madrid’s Casemiro is in the final stages and they are now turning their attention to Ajax’s Antony, who was a target earlier in the window.
A €70m bid has already been rejected but another is reportedly in the offing, with Ajax reluctant to sell yet another star this summer.
It remains to be seen if Manchester United can get a deal over the line but if they can’t, Gakpo has been named as a potentially cheaper alternative to Antony.
It seems efforts have been made too, with ED reporting, via NOS, that they have already held ‘several talks’ with the player’s agents.
During those talks it has ‘become clear’ that his wage demands will not be a ‘stumbling block’ to any move if there is an offer.
In simpler terms, Gakpo isn’t asking for anything outrageous, and that part of negotiations could be wrapped up quickly.
It all depends on whether United can get Antony, with Gakpo very much the back up and cheaper option to him at this point.
