For the past few days, reports from the Catalan media have discussed Manchester United as an option for Barcelona’s Memphis Depay.

The forward’s contract expires in 2023 and he’s dropped down the pecking order at the Camp Nou.

Sport explain the 28-year-old has ruled out the possibility of joining Real Sociedad either on loan or in a permanent transfer. This is confirmed to the newspaper by his entourage.

The Netherlands international has options to go to the Premier League and the newspaper states ‘this possibility does generate more expectations’.

Manchester United are tagged as the report claims the Red Devils have knocked on their former player’s door. That’s all they have to say about the English club.

Another Catalan newspaper, Mundo Deportivo, state the Dutchman’s future is up in the air, while the Blaugrana are ‘still negotiating’ his departure.

Having failed to join Juventus, Erik ten Hag’s side have emerged as a ‘solid alternative’ for the player since they are looking to strengthen their attack before the window closes.

It’s claimed the La Liga side will ‘demand a higher amount’ than what Manchester United ‘could reach’ for Depay.

The Red Devils have not qualified for the Champions League this campaign and it is something that Depay has ‘also valued’.
