Following recent reports saying Manchester United director John Murtough recently called Andreas Pereira to tell the loanee they’ll count on him next season, in case he returns to Old Trafford, outlet Globo Esporte today features a piece about it.
It’s recalled that on the 9th of February, Flamengo had representatives in London to close the deal for a permanent move. Since then, however, the Brazilian club kept silent, and have a couple of months to decide whether they’ll buy the midfielder or not.
Globo Esporte claims that in the recent conversation between Murtough and Pereira, the director claimed Erik ten Hag would have called the player directly, but couldn’t because he’s still in charge of Ajax.
Still, the manager ‘reinforced the desire’ of having the midfielder at least during pre-season, and sees him ‘with good eyes’ for the rebuilding plan that Manchester United are about to go through.
Andreas Pereira is 26-years-of-age.
Manchester United, however, are not expected to take any action. According to Globo Esporte, the Red Devils will wait and see if Flamengo will honour the deal and buy the player, and especially if Pereira wants to stay or come back. The Old Trafford side seem fine either with him being sold or returning to be another name in Ten Hag’s squad.
Later on, journalist Jorge Nicola featured a video claiming that Palmeiras are now interested in signing the player.
People close to Pereira revealed there was first contact from the Verdão, with their president Leila Pereira interested in signing him on loan from Manchester United. They’d like the player to replace their injured midfielder Jailson.
“It’s true. There’s interest, yes. Leila asked them to consult Andreas’ situation after the problem with Jailson,” said his source.
Nicola makes it clear those were just initial talks, and there’s a lot to happen between now and the summer. Still, the journalist is very sure that Flamengo will not keep the player and will send him back to Manchester United at the end of his spell.
A lot of what else is being claimed could be a PR stance to push Pereira’s standing higher in the eyes of Manchester United fans.
