Marcelo Flores’ choice of a national team has always been a big topic in the Mexican media, where they’d love to have the Arsenal youngster playing for them.

Now with just a few months before the World Cup, the time is coming for the player to make a final decision, and he discussed the situation in an interview with TUDN this week.

Quizzed if he’d play the tournament for Mexico, the midfielder says he’d give the country his priority, even though he may still me called up by Canada as well.

“Canada could also offer it to me, but Mexico, if they call me to the World Cup I think so, that’s where I want to be,” Flores told TUDN.

“Yes, of course, they want me to play for Canada and right now I’m waiting for the time to decide.

“Wherever they need me, I will be there to represent Mexico and wherever they want to play me, I will do my best for the team who call me.”

Marcelo Flores was also asked about Arsenal, as despite not having made his debut for the Gunners, he’s been training with Mikel Arteta’s squad and even made it to the bench in a Premier League match this season.

The midfielder makes it clear he’ll be fighting for his place in the squad, and claims to be learning from the big boys for now.

“Of course I want to get in and play all the time with Arsenal, I am working very hard so that Mikel and the coaching staff give me a chance to play. It was a very good experience, observing everything that happened, and I hope to be there much more.”

Making an appearance or two for Arsenal before the end of the season would surely make Mexico and Canada want him even more.
