Reading manager Japp Stam has told the Dutch media it will be interesting to see who comes out on top when his side clashes with Jimmy Hasselbaink’s Queen Park Rangers this weekend. The the only times the two Dutchmen played against each other was Leeds United and Manchester United matches, and Hasselbaink came out on top in their individual battle.
Speaking to Voetbal international, Stam said he knows the former Leeds United star very well from their time with the national team, and also early in their careers whilst in Holland. Despite playing for the Netherlands together, Stam said he doesn’t keep in touch with Hasselbaink, but confirmed they do get along.
“It’ll be very interesting to see who rises to the top. I know him because I have played in the national team with him and against him early in my career when we were playing in the first division in the Netherlands. We don’t call or speak to each other, but every time we meet it is very good,” said the Manchester United cult hero with regards to the QPR boss.
Stam will hoping to get one over Hasselbaink when Reading meet QPR at Loftus Road tomorrow. In the two games Stam came up against Hasselbaink when he was at Leeds United the forward scored in both games, although Manchester United got the better of the Elland Road club with the end result.
