On April 21st, Manchester United confirmed the appointment of Erik ten Hag as their new manager for next season.

Since then, Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong has been repeatedly linked to the Red Devils as he played under the 52-year-old at Ajax.

Ten Hag guided Ajax to league success last week and he can now completely focus on his new job at Manchester United. The manager’s desire for Netherlands international at Old Trafford is now mentioned both in the Spanish and Dutch press.

Spanish journalist Darío Montero told El Chiringuito that the Catalan club and the Premier League side ‘have been in contact’ to discuss De Jong. He didn’t dwell on the details of the talks between the two clubs.

Meanwhile, De Telegraaf states Manchester United ‘offered a private jet’ to Ten Hag so that he and his assistant, Mitchell van der Gaag, can fly to London. In the English capital, the new coach ‘will mainly discuss’ squad planning.

It’s said the Old Trafford club want to invest around €140m on new players to give Ten Hag the ‘right start.

The names of De Jong, along with Ajax duo of Jurriën Timber and Antony are ‘on the table’.

De Telegraaf state ‘not everything is feasible’.
