While Ashley Young got the ball rolling against Fulham at the weekend with a quite frankly impressive finish, there were a number of rumours over the summer regarding the left-back position at Manchester United.
With Luke Shaw a question mark in José Mourinho’s plans prior to the season starting, we saw a number of stories linking the Red Devils to the likes of Faouzi Ghoulam and Layvin Kurzawa.
No offers were made, since Manchester United seemed reluctant to spend big after throwing money at Shakhtar for a since underused Fred, but plans were made towards money being spent.
This is what Paris United claimed over the weekend, explaining the Premier League side had ‘considered a €25m offer’ for the defender during the ‘last few days of the transfer window’, around the same time that Juan Bernat arrived in Paris from Bayern Munich.
However, that doesn’t make sense.
Bernat’s transfer took place on August 31st, which was the last chance for French clubs to sign and register players, but, by then, the English window had been closed for three weeks.
Why would Manchester United ‘prepare’ a bid for Kurzawa 20 or so days after their own deadline? For a January move?
That seems unlikely.
A bit of a strange one, but L’Equipe did, on August 9th (deadline day in England), state Manchester United had made ‘very concrete contact in recent hours’, a timeframe we can get behind a bit more.
We’re not sure if Paris United just mixed up their timelines here, but since their track record has been pretty good so far, we’ll give them the benefit of the doubt.
