Ivan Rakitic’s future is of great interest to the Italian press these days, as Inter, in search of a new creative outlet in midfield, have made him their centre of attention.
Their first target was Luka Modric, but with the Croatia international seemingly set to remain at Real Madrid, his compatriot appears to have been next on the list.
The problem for Inter, at least according to more than one outlet around Europe, is that Manchester United want to get in their way.
In fact, it’s not just the Red Devils, as Corriere dello Sport on Thursday state Bayern Munich are also keen on the former Sevilla man.
The Italian newspaper look at his situation, and state that both Manchester United and the Bundesliga giants have ‘come forward’ for Rakitic, whatever that means.
Normally, that suggests they’ve made their interest known to the player, as anything else, like talks with Barcelona, would warrant far more than a simple line in an article.
This is the second time in a week that Manchester United have been placed in the race for Rakitic after Mundo Deportivo claimed they ‘wanted’ the player and were trying to ‘tempt’ him into joining them.
To us, that sounds very much like ‘coming forward’, so it could be that Corriere are using Mundo’s article to worry their readers, or they’ve heard something themselves.
Either way, we’ll have to see where this goes because there’s a lot of time before the summer window opens, and many things can happen between now and then.
