The Sun have had a remarkable number of transfer exclusives in recent weeks and one reason behind that is Emanuele Giulianelli. Taking on the Italian journalist, The Sun have taken a risk, given his record on transfers claims has often been comical and pushed at gaining prominence on Twitter.
On January 5th, Giulianelli claimed Manchester United had offered £32.5m for Kostas Manolas. On January 9th the same journalist claimed Jose Mourinho was was set to sanction a £47.6m (about €55m) bid for the player.
Roma were stated as wanting £52m, about €60m.
Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport say the word from Roma is that no offer has actually been received from Manchester United, whether formal or informal. There’s interest in Manolas from several clubs, but the claims from the English newspaper are false.
Whilst that will surprise nobody, Manolas is a good defender and one Gazzetta reckon Roma would consider selling. They believe an offer of around €40m could do the trick and would allow Roma to add to their squad, although such a scenario is likelier in the summer.
It would be no surprise if Manchester United have Manolas on their list of defender options, but the recent claims look to have nothing in them.
An interesting addition is that Emanuele Giulianelli once claimed Kostas Manolas had passed an Arsenal medical.
