We’re all in for another summer of the David De Gea to Real Madrid soap opera. Yippee!
El Confidencial say the Spanish club’s president Florentino Perez is pushing the goalkeeper not to accept a big renewal offer from Manchester United, and instead keep the chance of a transfer open.
The big problem for Perez is Jose Mourinho and the Premier League club are set against a sale, so it’d take some pushing and a very big fee.
It’s believed by El Confidencial that Manchester United would be asking for €110m, but that Perez doesn’t want to pay over €80m, a rather big €30m difference between the two clubs.
Real Madrid would need the English club to be ‘reasonable’ on price, but why should Manchester United be helpful?
De Gea’s contract runs until June 2019, and can be extended by his club for a further year, making it a contract running to June 2020 for general purposes. El Confidencial say Manchester United have to ‘deposit a large amount in the bank account’ of De Gea to make the extension and secure their star.
That’s two more seasons and unless De Gea kicks up a big fuss this summer, then it doesn’t look like the window Madrid could get their man. Stall things for a year, and if there’s still no renewal then a move would look more likely than it does at the moment.
