While the purchase of Cristiano Ronaldo will have quelled the Erling Haaland stories for a bit when it comes to Manchester United, everyone knows the Portuguese superstar won’t stay forever.
Add on top of that the question mark surrounding Edinson Cavani’s future and the swirling rumours regarding a potential Anthony Martial sale, and a new striker could quickly be needed at Old Trafford.
The aforementioned Norwegian would certainly do the trick, but in case he isn’t available or decides to try his luck elsewhere, alternatives will be looked at.
That’s where Dusan Vlahovic comes in, as the Serbian is likely to be on the market in January following the announcement he would not be renewing at Fiorentina.
With a contract until 2023, there isn’t a mad rush to sell him, but the Serie A side will want to cash in for as much as possible, fully aware the sooner they do it, the more they’ll get.
Manchester City, Atlético Madrid and Tottenham, who previously made moves for Vlahovic last summer, are the favourites to land him, as are Juventus in Italy, but that doesn’t mean other clubs won’t come knocking.
That’s what Corriere dello Sport state on Wednesday, explaining that ‘insertions from Manchester United cannot be excluded’.
As for the price, January would see Fiorentina ask for ‘no less than €75m’, which is the amount they wanted the player’s release clause to be when they offered him a new contract.
All in all, ‘the race for Vlahovic is open to everyone, because everyone wants him’.
That being said, only a few can afford him, and Manchester United, if the likes of Martial and/or Cavani are nearing an exit, are certainly one of those.
