Manchester United are competing with Inter Milan for the signing of Villarreal’s Pau Torres next summer.
That’s according to Fichajes, who say the defender’s rise to prominence with Luis Enrique’s Spain side this year has helped to put him on the radar of several European sides.
He’s long been linked with a move to Manchester United and the website insists they’ve retained their interest from previous windows.
They believe they still need reinforcements in defence, which is considered one of the weakest areas of the squad.
A replacement for Harry Maguire is being sought as the club wants a long-term partner for Lisandro Martinez and they see Torres as being the ‘ideal complement’ to the Argentinian.
There’s no mention of an asking price at this point but Manchester United are likely to need a big sum as Torres is a key player for Villarreal.
What could work in their favour is that he will be in the final year of his contract next summer, which may mean the Spanish side are forced into a sale if he doesn’t sign an extension.
