As things stand, Samir Nasri’s choice to go on loan to Sevilla appears to be a good one.
Lauded for his performances soon after his arrival in Spain, the Manchester City loanee is enjoying himself, and is back in the La Liga team’s squad after the winter break, playing the full 90 minutes in both a 3-0 loss to Real Madrid and a 4-0 win over Real Sociedad.
The 29-year-old, who is expected to return to the Etihad at the end of the season, was interviewed by Onze Mondial last month, and omissions from the published interview are being released on the magazine’s website this week.
Speaking about next season, the player made things very clear when the interviewer explained he was under the impression that Nasri ‘wanted to return [to Manchester City] to impose himself next season’.
The Manchester City player said: “No, not at all. I don’t want to come back or impose myself. I just want to play. I’ll see at the end of the season what will be best for me. Like I told you, I always do what’s best for me. If I’d wanted to stay at City, would have stayed because Pep told me he wanted me to stay.
“I have two years left at City. I have a purchase option on the loan that is very high for a club like Sevilla where the biggest transfer in their history is €16m. Of course, I’m going to return to Manchester at some point. After that, I’ll do what’s best for me.”
Among other things, Nasri also revealed he was ‘happy’ for Yaya Touré, after the 33-year-old made it back into Pep Guardiola’s plans in mid-November after having been left out by the Spaniard following comments made by the player’s agent over the summer.
The former Arsenal star has made 16 appearances for Sevilla so far this season, scoring three goals and picking up an assist.
