With three fixtures to go, the Brazilian league is on fire. Palmeiras kept themselves in a comfortable position after a 1-1 draw against Atlético-MG last night, and are now four points in front of second placed Santos.
It was a very tense match for Palmeiras, who were pressured by a Santos win earlier in the evening. Manchester City loanee Gabriel Jesus scored the opening goal, but the team ended up conceding an equaliser.
The discussion between the players not only became a scrap on the pitch, but also resulted in some very good (and funny) comments after the match.
“I told him it was not a thing for men. That he’s an asshole,” Gabriel Jesus said live on Brazilian TV. “I’m the one who’s 19 years old and it seems he’s the boy.”
Leandro Donizete also gave his response on TV, saying things should change when Gabriel goes to the Premier League.
“I play football for 15 years and never hurt anyone. I won’t change the way I play. It happens in Libertadores, no one says a thing. It’s all normal,” said Donizete.
“I want to see when he goes to England, let’s see if he’ll complain to the press too when someone comes hard at him.”
With last night’s goal, Gabriel ended a six-game drought. He now has 12 goals in the competition, being one behind the top scorers.
The Brazilian league ends on the 4th of December, so the player should have some short of holiday before officially joining Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City in January.
