Things are starting to look very good for Manchester City in their chase for the Montpellier youngster Nordi Mukiele.
Let’s start with the reports from this week, when Portuguese newspaper Record had a chat with his agent Frederic Payet.
The representative confirmed that Benfica are interested in him, but also opened up about Manchester City, who have the right-back “as third on their list”.
Payet made sure to say that England is the “player’s dream”, and even the Eagles would understand that, since “Benfica are a good step to get to a top English club”.
Mukiele had already been linked to Manchester City earlier this year, so all the representative did was to confirm the old news from the English press.
Now it turns out that after all that initial excitement from the Portuguese press over his signing, it looks like Benfica won’t have the money to buy him after all.
Even though Montpellier are demanding only €10m for Mukiele, Record reports that Benfica will only make an offer in case the French side drop the price.
There’s no doubt it would make things easier for any other club who want him, especially from the Premier League.
Now it’s a case of waiting to see if Pep Guardiola is really that keen on the 20-year-old. For now, poor Benfica, who made only €131m with sales this summer, don’t have €10m to spend on a target.
