Eric García is in his final year of contract at Manchester City and has already informed the club he won’t be signing a new deal.
Barcelona are keen on bringing the 19-year-old back to the club, three years after he left them for the Citizens.
On Monday, Mundo Deportivo reported it’s a ‘key week’ for the Catalan club to sign the Spain international.
Today’s edition of the same newspaper explains Ronald Koeman’s side are negotiating for the centre-back’s signing, and have set a €15m ceiling to acquire his services.
It’s claimed the figure seems low for City, who are asking for a ‘fair price’ of €25m, which is a similar fee to what Pep Guardiola’s side paid to Valencia for Ferran Torres.
Mundo add the English side ‘don’t seem to deviate much’ from the €25m price tag.
The difference of €10m ‘separates’ García from ending his time with the Premier League side and returning to his old club.
Barca plan on investing €15m on the teenager, and the report adds they are unlikely to increase their offer.
Should City stand firm on the €25m asking price, it could make the defender’s exit from the club difficult in the ongoing window.
If that happens, the Spaniard could then be available for cheap in January or join another club on a free transfer next summer.
Barcelona, for their part, are not in a rush to pay more to sign García because of the defender’s contract situation and his ‘firm stance’.
He ‘wants to go back to his football ‘home’ and he is going to do everything he can to achieve it.’
