Patrick De Koster, the agent of Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne, was arrested in Belgium on Thursday, reports Het Laatste Nieuws.
It’s claimed the 29-year-old’s representative spent last night in a police cell, and is expected to appear before a judge on Friday.
HLN add the agency’s offices in Brussels, Knokke and Senegal were raided, and the possibility of conducting more searches on properties tied to J&S International Football Management cannot be ruled out.
According to Het Nieuwsblad, his arrest was a result of a complaint filed by Herwig De Bruyne, the father of the City player.
It’s stated ‘a financial dispute’ was the basis on which Herwig made the complaint against De Koster.
The searches offices on Thursday were ‘commissioned by Brussels investigative judge and fraud hunter, Michel Claise’. Later that day, it was confirmed Kevin’s representative was ‘arrested and taken for questioning’.
Het Nieuwsblad sources state it’s tied to the commission earned by De Koster from Kevin’s €75m move to City from VfL Wolfsburg in 2015.
De Koster and Herwig shared a close relationship, and the agent has built a ‘very good relationship’ with his client’s family. De Bruyne Sr had earlier suggested he sees De Koster more as family member than his son’s agent.
Het Nieuwsblad states all these factors make the latest development look ‘so strange’.
For now, De Koster’s fate ‘rests in the hands of investigating judge’, Michel Claise.
