One of the main reasons why Bernardo Silva chose to join Manchester City was because Pep Guardiola was there.

He’s never hidden that fact, and he keeps repeating it.

Admitting that, despite a limited game time so far this season, he’s happy with the way things are going, having left the comfort of AS Monaco last summer, the playmaker will continue to learn from those around him, especially from his manager.

Speaking to SFR Sport on Wednesday night, the 23-year-old was asked what he felt he’d improved on most since his arrival at the Etihad.

He said: “Probably that when you win five, six, 10, 15 games, teams normally relax a bit, and the desire to win goes away, he won’t allow that, because if you win 15, you have to win the 16th. If you win 20, you have to win the 21st.

“This ambition, it’s important to have a team who wants to win all competitions, like we’re doing this season. I’ve learnt that this ambition, this desire, the mental part of the game is the most important.”

Describing Guardiola as a ‘fantastic manager’, who, as well as understanding football down to a T, also ‘works well with every player’.

Despite limited game time in the league (just 947 minutes), Bernardo Silva has still made 40 appearances in all competitions, scoring five goals and picking up 10 assists so far in his first season at the club.

Not bad for someone who’s seen as a backup by most.
