Contracted to Manchester City until 2023, Kevin De Bruyne’s situation at the Etihad isn’t precarious… yet.
The Belgian midfielder, a key player for Pep Guardiola, has been in talks to renew his deal with the Premier League leaders for some time now, but he has yet to agree anything, going as far as turning down their initial offer.
Manchester City don’t want to lose their player, whom the manager ‘sees as his extension on the field’, capable of following and help spread his instructions to a T, and a new contract is now on the table.
That’s according to Het Belang Van Limburg, who report the Cityzens have sent him ‘a new and improved proposal’, one that would see him earn more ‘than the current €18m gross/year’ he earns at the minute.
While ‘the broad outlines have been determined, the concrete interpretation is currently being discussed’.
Handling the negotiations himself following the split with his long-time agent Patrick de Koster, De Bruyne is being helped ‘by a team of lawyers and his father, Herwig’.
Things also appear to be going rather well, as HBVL go as far as saying ‘a final agreement is expected to be reached before the end of the season’.
