The Dan-Axel Zagadou saga is about to come to an end, and it appears that, despite Manchester City’s best efforts, he won’t be coming to the north of England.
That is, at least, what France Football are reporting on Wednesday, as they explain the centre-back is closest to joining Borussia Dortmund in Germany, while RB Leipzig are also doing their best to bring him in.
This doesn’t mean all hope is lost for Pep Guardiola, who was even reported to have met Zagadou when the youngster travelled to Manchester to view the Etihad and its neighbouring facilities over the winter period.
France Football rub it in a little bit more by saying the France U18 captain was ‘very close’ to signing for Manchester City.
The decision behind leaving Paris Saint-Germain appears to be one motivated by a desire to at least get a chance of playing first-team football, something that isn’t a possibility these days in the French capital.
The same would probably apply to Manchester City, who, having spent a lot of money on John Stones last year, could bring someone else in with a bit more experience to partner the England international next season, unless Guardiola is happy with Nicolas Otamendi.
Time is running out for the Citizens…
