Manchester City defender Eliaquim Mangala has a ‘total agreement’ to join Porto this summer, according to the Portuguese press today.
Front page news from newspaper O Jogo says the player has accepted a pay cut so he can ‘relaunch’ his career at his old club.
The outlet claims things are moving quite fast, with Mangala wanting to have his vacations with his future decided, and the Dragons manager Sérgio Conceição willing to sign a defender as soon as possible.
There are now two issues to be resolved. First, a deal with Manchester City, and second, Porto want to know the defender’s real physical state.
They’re just afraid that City, who paid €30m for his signing, would still want to recover part of the money.
Regarding Mangala’s fitness, there’s some concern about the long time he’s stayed injured over the course of the campaign, so the Dragons want to be sure they’re not signing someone they won’t be able to count on.
Should Porto get a positive response on both matters, then it looks very likely that Mangala could be returning to the club this summer.
