Claudio Bravo’s relationship with Chile’s media continues to be patchy.
The latest controversy the Manchester City goalkeeper was involved in happened on Tuesday, when he called out an outlet for writing fake news.
It all started with a report from La Cuarta where they interviewed the Besiktas vice-president Erdal Torunogullari. The official dismissed claims that his club would be working to sign Bravo.
“It’s not true that we are in talks with Claudio Bravo. I assure you. We respect the player a lot, we know that he has a great career, he’s a great player who’s always been in important clubs. However, I believe that we will stay with the players we have in the goalkeeper position.”
He also said Claudio Bravo was offered to Besiktas, but the club didn’t then show interest in the signing.
“You know what journalists are like. There are always a lot of rumours in this transfer season. Our coach knows the player, has good references, but I repeat that we’re not interested in having his services. At some point intermediaries offered us the services of the Chilean goalkeeper, but there’s nothing more than that, there were no more approaches.”
Part of the Chilean media wasn’t very polite when covering these quotes. A few outlets made quite some noise saying Besiktas rejected the chance to sign the national team star, using the term ‘portazo’, which means a slammed door.
Bravo wasn’t very happy with that, and went to Twitter to complain. He quoted CDF’s report and said this is ‘fake news’.
“New ‘portazo’ of what? If all you publish is copy and paste. In addition to being a false info. ‘Portazo’ is the one they are giving to subscribers who pay the channel without having football since October. Respect!!! and real information.”
