Manchester City star Ferran Torres has admitted that Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo is his ‘point of reference’ in the game.
The Portuguese star made a sensational return to England this summer, with the Red Devils moving to bring him back to the club when it appeared he would be going to the Etihad.
His arrival at Old Trafford filled a big need at the club, who have long needed an elite level striker of his calibre.
While the focus has been on his impact on the pitch, there has also been plenty of talk about the effect he will have on the players off of it as well.
There is a belief he’ll have a positive impact on the way players will go about various aspects of their lives, from diet to the way they train.
Ronaldo is known to be among the top professionals in the game, sticking to a strict regime to remain at the top of his game, particularly when it comes to his fitness.
It seems it is not just his Manchester United teammates who are taking note, though, with a rival at Manchester City admitting his own admiration.
“(He) is my point of reference. He has changed football in terms of nutrition, taking care of yourself, investing in your body,” the City player told Movistar’s Universo Valdano, relayed by El Desmarque.
“This is a long-term process in which what you do today has repercussions for tomorrow. Football is more physical, and you have to be prepared.
“You have to play and have a team behind you that takes care of you. There are a lot of games and trips that can weigh you down. I like them to be on top of me to deliver.
“I have a personal trainer, then my physio as well. They are in contact with the club, and they are a supplement for me. They are in full contact with me every day at all times.”
