Manchester City are interested in signing young Uruguayan defender Santiago Bueno, reports Mundo Deportivo. The 18-year-old plays for Penarol in Uruguay, and is the captain of their U18 team.
Catalan giants Barcelona are also interested in Bueno, and Mundo Deportivo report they are ready to make a concrete offer to Penarol in the next ‘few hours’.
It’s been reported Barcelona have been following Bueno for over a year now, but face competition from English clubs, mainly from Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City.
Bueno has represented Uruguay at several youth categories, and is also expected to feature in the South American U20 Championship next year in Ecuador.
Mundo Deportivo say Bueno’s aerial abilities are similar to that of Diego Godin, but physically he is much more similar to Gerard Pique.
There is no mention if Manchester City are prepared to make an offer for Bueno, but you’d think a certain Luis Suarez could provide the edge for Barcelona.
