Following Tuesday night’s 4-0 destruction of Barcelona by Paris Saint-Germain, all eyes are now fixed on next week’s Monaco vs Manchester City clash.
Ahead of their Parisian colleagues in Ligue 1, the principality club have been an unstoppable force going forward this season, averaging three goals per game in the league.
While Radamel Falcao has taken a lot of the plaudits for his rediscovered form, one man has also been quietly impressing, earning himself a France cap along the way: Thomas Lemar.
The 21-year-old has scored seven goals and assisted teammates six times in 21 league appearances this season, and attracted a lot of interest with his performances, including his upcoming opponents Manchester City.
According to L’Equipe on Wednesday, Pep Guardiola is a big fan of the forward, and the French newspaper suggest the Spaniard could offer him the perfect platform to explode on a bigger stage, with his game improving considerably when those around him work with him.
Monaco are said to be wanting somewhere between €30-35m for their talented winger, who has a contract with them running until 2020.
However, the club’s vice-president, Vadim Vasilyev, made it very clear Monaco intended to renew Lemar’s contract, most likely in order to increase his value for the upcoming summer.
Chelsea, Atlético Madrid (who made a €20m offer last summer) and Bayern Munich are all also keen on the young forward, and it seems we might end up with an interesting bidding war in the summer.
Considering Monaco managed to make Manchester United pay €50m + €30m in bonuses for Anthony Martial, it wouldn’t be surprising if we saw Lemar move for something similar in the summer, either.
Add to that the likely departures of both Bernardo Silva and Tiémoué Bakayoko, and the principality club could end up with a lot of money to spare next transfer window.
