For the last two days, reports in Italy and Sweden have explained the clubs who have FC Groningen’s Gabriel Gudmundsson on their transfer agenda.
Manchester City were named, and this was also verified by Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet on Tuesday.
The 21-year-old admitted his immediate focus is on the Eredivisie side and he isn’t thinking about the recent reports.
His comments have not stopped the rumours as claims made in Italy and Sweden are now backed up by the Dutch press.
De Telegraaf claims top European clubs have their sights on the left-back, and name City, Borussia Dortmund, Napoli, Ajax and RB Leipzig as suitors. Regarding Pep Guardiola’s side, it’s stated they ‘keep an eye’ on the player.
With a contract expiring in 2022, the next market ‘seems like the time’ for Groningen to make money through his sale. De Telegraaf’s report is further backed up by Voetbal International.
According to VI, there is ‘interest’ from Manchester City and BVB, but that isn’t converted into a ‘concrete offer’ so far. RB Leipzig and Napoli are ‘charmed’ by the player.
Groningen are aware of the growing list of clubs who are looking at the defender and given the ‘great interest’, the outlet states Gudmundsson ‘will already make a multi-million dollar transfer’ in the summer.
Having operated as a winger last term, Gudmundsson was moved to the left side of defence this season, where he has ‘become a revelation’, proving to be ‘reliable and an attacking weapon’.
