There’s been a lot of talk in certain areas of the British press recently regarding Manchester City’s alleged interest in Atlético Madrid’s Saul.
This was strongly denied by a source close to the player when put to them by Sport Witness.
Then came claims of Manchester United joining the mix, but that was also vehemently refuted, suggesting the Spanish midfielder, who signed a nine year deal with his club back in 2017, will stay with Diego Simeone in Madrid next year.
One man who might not, however, is Rodrigo, as Enrique Ortego explained to Onda Cero’s El Transistor.
The journalist explained that Manchester City were ‘very interested’ in the defensive midfielder, as he’s the closest thing to Sergio Busquets these days, and we all know how much Guardiola enjoyed the Barcelona man’s skillset during his time in Catalonia.
As for the price, it’s rather affordable, as Rodrigo has a €70m release clause in his contract, which ‘isn’t an impediment’ for a club like the Premier League champions.
In fact, Ortego went as far as saying Guardiola ‘is prepared’ to trigger the clause.
However, we all know how tough it is to sign anyone from Atlético Madrid, so we’ll believe this when we see it.
