It’s no secret that Benfica’s ability to sell players makes them one of the best negotiators in the world, and it’s time to prepare for the summer of 2020.
An interesting piece from A Bola today claims that after selling João Félix to Atletico Madrid for €120m this year, the idea is to get something similar next year.
And the player who’s been showing the greatest signs for that is Florentino Luís, who made his debut last season. He currently has Manchester City and Paris Saint Germain in the list of clubs who follow him, but that pursuit could grow a lot.
A Bola claims that the strategy of both Benfica and the player’s staff is for him to stay in Lisbon for one more season so he can consolidate himself at the Eagles’ first team.
Manchester City and Paris Saint Germain are said to be the clubs who are ‘attentive to his evolution’. And it’s no problem for Pep Guardiola’s side that the Premier League transfer window has closed, since there’s no intention of selling the 19-year-old now.
He’s protected by the same €120m release clause as João Félix. The question is whether he’ll be able to show all the potential that the Atletico Madrid player did in the last season.
