Olivier Giroud is the king of the comeback. Ahead of the 2020 January market, he was repeatedly linked with a move away from Chelsea as he looked to get time on the pitch ahead of Euro 2020.
Multiple clubs were linked with the Blues man, yet he stayed at Stamford Bridge and in the second half of the season scored eight Premier League goals and a further one in the FA Cup.
There was again talk of an exit over the summer, but he continued with Chelsea only to again find himself a bit-part player in the league. So far this season he’s been given 47 Premier League minutes across five appearances, although he’s had a much better time in the Champions League.
Antonio Cassano, now working as a pundit in Italy, has been quoted by Tuttosport as saying: “Giroud has made a choice of life, with his family he wants to stay in London. Changing to play like he does at Chelsea makes no sense.”
That means there’s be no point in swapping Chelsea’s bench for the one at Inter Milan, and after his four midweek goals there’s a good chance Lampard will have to grant further minutes to the Frenchman.
